Our first flight will take us to Dubai, and on to Johannesburg (Jo-burg for those who know) after a nine hour stopover. We booked this trip last March when Travelzoo offered a great deal on a 13 day trip to Dubai and South Africa. We figured it was a good opportunity to experience Dubai and get a very small glimpse of South Africa, recognizing that we would be spending significant time in the air.
I was able to snag a full row (4 seats) for us by asking the flight attendant just before take-off if we could move to the empty row. It really helped as we were able to sleep laying down during the 14 hour flight.
Emirates reminds you it's nighttime by providing a starry ceiling during the flight.
